The borough is mainly zoned residential except for a relatively small downtown business section on Beach Road, shopping is close by at the fabulous Pier Village in Long Branch.
Bordered by Long Branch to the south, Sea Bright to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Shrewsbury River to the west it was once a play area for the very rich who built large ocean mansions and large Victorian hotels.
For those that like something different on a Sunday morning - the Church in town, built in 1893 by shipbuilders resembles an upside-down ship.
The borough has no shortage of places to eat, drink, or shop. An elementary school for kindergarten through eighth grade. High school is Shore Regional.
A converted former Coast Guard station on Ocean Avenue is home to Cultural Center that hosts art and photography exhibits. The Saturday after Labor Day is the annual Kids Day, featuring rides and games for children in Griffin Park, and culminating with a fireworks display.
