Welcome to Rumson! Rumored to be settled by the English it was originally named Narumsunk, a native Indian word for the neck between the Navesink River and the Shrewbury river.
Known for it's grand estates and upscale lifestyle, it is a wonderful town that has easy access to Manhattan. Many of the grand old estates were built by wealthy New Yorkers as Summer homes. Today one such beautifully restored building is the beautiful Rumson Country Club with golf, paddle, and fine dining.
Residents of Rumson in the 19th Century enjoyed many activities, swimming in the river, the Atlantic Ocean, or taking a wagon ride. In winter, they used the river for ice-boating. Today, many of those estates remain and several prominent figures have homes in town. Bruce Springsteen 'The Boss' being one of them.
It remains today one of the wealthiest towns in New Jersey. Some of the homes are spectacularly large, many with private yachts anchored in the river, which serves as their backyard. Locals enjoy the beautiful beaches just over the Oceanic Bridge, as well as a quick commuter ferry to Manhattan. Shopping is close by in hip Red Bank or a drive to Freehold Mall.
Close together in the center of town making walking and biking easy are the three Rumson schools. RFH - Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School, Forrestdale, and Deane Porter.
Rumson has it's very own crew team, which is a natural fit, considering the waterside living. The beaches are within walking or biking distance making this the perfect lifestyle.
Great restaurants, great schools and even an iconic ice cream store. Situated on just over 7 square miles it provides an array of properties ranging from in town residences to the sprawling estates. There are many neighborhoods each with its own feel.
Prices can be amazingly affordable with an "in town" property starting in the $400,000's to a million plus.
